Mizuno X Nagoya X SoccerBible

The Nagoya Grampus Eight ‘93 jersey was, in itself, a timeless masterpiece of football-based design. With such striking colours and truly unique detail, it’s a heritage piece that is as fitting on the street as it is in the archives. Staying true and still contemporary, the aesthetic was ahead of the game on so many levels.

Taking all this into consideration, working with Mizuno and independent football art house Fokohaela, SoccerBible started this process by looking outside of football, earmarking emerging trends and gathering inspiration from other innovative spaces of industry.

SoccerBible has a unique line of sight with football. We get to see and house every drop the game brings and showcase the very best from the scene. Sitting agnostically in this space means we can highlight the gaps as well as the trends across the market. For this collaboration, we looked specifically at the role sponsors fit in the design of football products and how they translate across other sports. Motocross, as an example, played a big part in the design. Use of bright tones and conceptual patterns meant that we could take nods from the past though create something new and effervescent for now.

Working with Fokohaela meant we were able to layer on expertise and an intune, artistic eye as the brand went to work on bringing ideas together for this two-piece collection. There’s visually vocal use of colour, a real sense of wearable style and re-imagined logos for this three-way collaboration.

Both products have been designed to be worn whilst celebrating a heritage of football design that still hits hard today. The objective was to take something iconically classic and rework it into an age where football and fashion meet, so powerfully. This drop stands out in a way that shows how you can take a minimalist approach whilst dropping a suitably strong palette of colour. Good energy, wearable charm and a thirst for an exploration into Japanese football culture. We hope by creating such a head-turning capsule, it encourages the western world to explore the legacy of football in Asia even further.
